Children’s Therapeutic Services and Supports

WHAT IS CTSS?

CTSS is a package of mental health services designed for children (includes adolescents and young adults up to age 21) who require varying therapeutic and levels of intervention. CTSS covers services for a diagnosed emotional disturbance or diagnosed mental illness in children that are determined to be medically necessary by a mental health professional. At David Hoy & Associates we provide in-home therapy and life skills training services to children and their families under the CTSS program.

WHO PROVIDES CTSS SERVICES?

Our providers all qualify as CTSS providers under the qualifications put in place by DHS. These are Mental Health Practitioners, Clinical Trainees and Master’s level interns.

WHAT IS SKILLS WORK?

Skills sessions are spent learning life skills such as sharing, communication, leadership, relationship building, coping with anxiety, managing anger, identifying and discussing emotions, etc.  This can be accomplished in a variety of ways, i.e., conversations, art, games, and other activities.  Skills work is goal oriented and therapeutic in nature and we will expect the client and their family to learn, practice new skills, and change old behavior patterns.

WHO PARTICIPATES?

The identified client for CTSS is a child, adolescent or young adult ages 4-21. We work with the client, their family and other people involved in the client’s life. This includes but is not limited to: parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, siblings, PCA, foster parent, teacher, mentor, probation officer, social worker, etc.

WHY ARE FAMILY SESSIONS IMPORTANT?

Family sessions are one of the most important services we provide. It is important that a client’s family understands the client’s goals and the progress they are making. Having healthy communication within family systems helps increase support and helps clients reach their goals. These sessions may also improve the whole family’s ability to interact in more positive ways.

WHERE DO THE SERVICES TAKE PLACE?

The majority of CTSS sessions take place in the client’s home.  Visits may also take place at school or other community locations as deemed therapeutically appropriate.

HOW LONG IS A CTSS SESSION?

CTSS sessions typically last for 2-4 hours. They include a mix of the CTSS services we provide; individual and family therapy and individual and family skills. CTSS is considered a more intensive program and we expect our clients to work with their provider for at least 4 hours per week.

HOW ARE CTSS SESSIONS PAID FOR?

CTSS is covered by Medicaid or Prepaid Medical Assistance insurance plans. You can also pay out of pocket, the rate is $150/hour for therapy, $80/hour for skills and $30/hour for travel.

WHAT STEPS DOES A CLIENT NEED TO TAKE TO PARTICIPATE IN CTSS?

  1. A referral is made by another provider working with the client, or a parent reaches out to DH&A to request services. Referrals include demographics, insurance, scheduling availability and a background about what the client is experiencing and would like to work on.
  2. An Administrative Assistant will reach out to the family and referring worker to confirm receipt of the referral, make sure they understand the service they are being added to the waitlist for, and let them know the wait time. If the referral is missing information it will be collected at this time.
  3. The client will be put on our CTSS waitlist.
  4. When we have a CTSS provider that will be a good fit for the client our Administrative Assistants will reach out to the guardian to schedule a Diagnostic Assessment.
  5. Once the Diagnostic Assessment is complete the assigned provider will meet with the client and their guardian for their first session. During the first session the client, guardian and provider will work together to create the client’s first treatment plan.
  6. Each consecutive session will support reaching the goals on the treatment plan. The client and their family will meet with their provider for 4-6 hours per week for 2-4 hours at a time.
  7. CTSS can continue until a client ages out (21 years old) or they have completed all of their goals and no longer are in need of the services.
